Thundersday

5.13 “…about that tragoady thundersday…”

6.13 “…whyi deed ye diie? of a trying thirstay mournin?”

Thursday is named for Thor – the Norse god of sky and thunder. Bloomsday 1904 was a Thursday. The Last Supper was Thursday. In the Eastern Orthodox Church, Thursdays are dedicated to the apostles and St. Nicholas. In Jewish tradition Thursday is an auspicious day for fasting; also the Torah is read in public on Thursday mornings. In America we feast on the third Thursday in November. Thursday’s child has far to go.

  1. Oops – Shemish informs me that most likely the fall from the ladder takes place on Thursday. The rest of the book, the wake, takes place in the ensuing days (Friday – Sunday).
    I stand corrected.
